The Spotlight's On: Maureen Wallace of Operation Have It All

Getting to Know You:

Name: Maureen Rich Wallace
Blog Name and URL: Operation Have It All (www.operationhaveitall.com)

I’m such an unsavvy rookie, I envision small wooden things and plug-in air freshener when I try to answer this question…

Dish you would bring to our community picnic:
Are margaritas a dish? I do make a scrumptious chocolate trifle. The secret is Skor bars. None of that Heath junk.

On Blogging:

What got you blogging and what keeps you going?
Growing up, I loved to write but never really had anything I particularly wanted to
write about at great length or in great depth. Then, at age 37, I learned my unborn son
had Down syndrome. I kept up a brave, happy face and let only my husband see me
crumbling inside. Then Charlie was born, and I learned about unconditional love. I
returned to my corporate America career and dove into work. When he was 17.5 months
old, we introduced him to his sister and I learned a heart can expand exponentially
without injury.

But this time was different. I returned to work as part of a job share; I spent half the week
at home and half the week as spokesperson for a Fortune 100 company. I thought a few
entertaining things might happen along the way, so I started the blog. It’s become my
affordable therapy, and my children ensure I will need therapy for a long, long time.

One post that makes you laugh?

One post you are really proud of, for whatever reason?
I have to go with two, because the first was inspired by the short film, “Just Like You –
Down syndrome” and the second was my first public reaction as a mother of a child who
may one day be called the R word.

How have you seen your blog/blogging style change and how would you like to see it
develop?

I’ve learned to edit myself. No one needs (or wants!) to know a thousand words about
what I think on anything. But it’s hard… it’s so much easier to edit other people’s stuff!
